The craze for beauty sheet masks is oh-so-real!
So for those wandering, a sheet mask is a cloth or paper saturated in skin-loving ingredients that’s left over the face for about ten to fifteen minutes. During this time our skin absorbs the good stuff. Celebrities and models have been posting facial sheet masks all over the internet for years now. They are definitely not a new trend. In the 1800s, women would go to extreme measures to attain and keep youthful and radiant skin textures. Most of them were using Madame Rowley’s toilet mask “for beautifying, bleaching and preserving the complexion”. In fact, the mask was known for being soft, easy to apply and could be worn while sleeping without discomfort and inconvenience. Before being released on the market, advertisements mentioned that the mask had been tested by chemical experts and eminent scientists to reassure prospective customers on different concerns that might prevent them from buying the masks.
During the 1900s, radium-infused masks and electronic heated face masks were introduced to the market. The radium-infused masks were known to revive sallowness and restore smoothness. On the downside, the mask was harmful to practitioners’ health. On the other hand, the electronic heated face masks were used on women for skin tightening, rosy cheeks and glowing skin. With the discovery of television, which became available in basically every household in 1950, women now had viewing access to the Hollywood beauty world. They started going to spas mainly for steam facials to achieve that long sought-after youthful, glowing and healthy-looking skin.
Fast forward to 2016, Luxurious but expensive masks and affordable masks have been introduced to the market. Consumers are no longer going to the spa and spending tons of money on facials. They can enjoy the the luxury of a facial at home. Believe it or not, looking for the best sheet masks on the market is not an easy task. Well, no doubt, there are many different options to choose from ranging from clay to cream to sheet masks all claiming different benefits to prospects and consumers. Radiance, anti-aging, moisturizing, purifying, rejuvenating, whitening, exfoliating benefits to only cite a few are the promises made by brands to attract customers. Choosing a perfect mask really comes down to personal skin needs. Sheet masks are trending right now. By popular demand, they are available at Sephora, Ulta and even at Target.
